When my son Michael was 9 months old, I had returned to work and enrolled him and my 2 year old daughter Amanda in a local daycare. I had labeled their stuff with everything I could think of but nothing ever worked longer than a few days. Permanent markers are not permanent, nor are they waterproof... after writing on items that I had to wash, the writing came off! Paper labels would fall apart in the dishwasher and leave a nasty adhesive on his bottles. Label machine labels were too thick and could not stay on his bottles as they were not flexible. Nothing ever worked to my satisfaction. It was very frustrating! One day, a daycare worked called me at work to tell me to come and pick up my son from daycare because he only drank 2 ounces of his bottle, threw it across the room and was having a tantrum. She said Michael was hysterical and they could not get him to calm down. He vomited and they could not deal with him. I worked an hour's drive away in NJ so I drove as fast, safely and legally I could to get to that daycare. When I got to the daycare, Michael's lips were blue and he was having an asthma attack. I quickly asked to see the bottle that they had given to Michael and knew it was not his bottle. It clearly had milk in it and Michael was allergic to milk. I was MORTIFIED!!! He only drank soy formula and the bottle they gave him was all scratched up and gross! I picked him up & we went straight to the ER where he was treated. As it turned out, Michael was fine in a few days but I vowed that this would never happen to my son or another child again. It took me weeks of begging many different paper manufacturers to come up with a waterproof label. After months of testing and a severance pay from my company, I created "Babylabels" It's been 7 years now of helping other parents to protect their children's belongings and I am so happy to say that I have helped well over 250,000 parents have some peace of mind when it comes to labeling their children's "stuff."
